Parliament to Study Change in US Policy towards Iran

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Iran’s Parliament is set to discuss the latest change in US lawmakers’ approach towards Iran.

The US Congress has postponed sending its annual sanctions legislation on Iran to the White House reportedly over certain considerations after the election of Hassan Rohani as the Islamic Republic’s next president.

If the legislation, which is aimed at escalating the sanctions against Iran, is even ready this year, it will not be considered until October at the earliest.

In reply, Chairman of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi said, “The change of approach by the US Congressmen and writing a letter to (US) President (Barack Obama) are considerable points that the committee will discuss during its sessions in order to reach a consensus on whether this approach is a temporary one or not.”

“The change in the approach of the US Congressmen requires deliberation,” he added.

Boroujerdi also pointed at a previous letter by the US lawmakers who had called for more sanctions against the Islamic Republic of Iran, and stated, the change of approach on the part of the US Congressmen in a short period of time shows a lack of stability and proper decision-making among the US officials.
