Diplomats Discuss Boost to Iran-Netherlands Ties

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Ranking diplomats from Iran and the Netherlands explored avenues at a meeting in Tehran for the enhancement of bilateral relations in light of the recent termination of anti-Iran sanctions.

Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for American and European Affairs Majid Takht Ravanchi held the meeting with Secretary General for the Dutch Foreign Ministry Renée Jones-Bos in Tehran on Tuesday.

Pointing to European countries’ resolve to revive ties with Iran, Takht Ravanchi said Tehran welcomes the positive trend of closer relations with Europe.

For her part, the Dutch diplomat said numerous grounds exist for cooperation between Tehran and Amsterdam, adding that her country is ready to cooperate with Iran in diverse fields.

The two diplomats also discussed the latest developments in the region, particularly in Syria and Yemen.

Back in February, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and his Dutch counterpart Bert Koenders met on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference in Germany, weighing plans for the expansion of bilateral ties after implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), a lasting nuclear deal between Tehran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany).

The nuclear agreement came into force on January 16 and terminated all nuclear-related sanctions on Iran.
