Iran, Pakistan Ink 6 MoUs to Boost Ties
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – High-ranking officials from Iran and Pakistan signed six memorandums of understanding (MoUs) to strengthen bilateral cooperation in various areas, including health, commerce, security and foreign services.
The documents were signed in a ceremony in Islamabad on Friday, attended by Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, after a meeting between the two countries’ delegations.
The two sides signed an agreement for cooperation between Iran’s School of International Relations and Pakistan’s Foreign Service Academy. Adviser to Pakistani premier on foreign affairs Sartaj Aziz and Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif represented their countries, according to Pakistan’s Daily Times.
The Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan and the Central Insurance of Iran also signed an MoU to exchange information and promote cooperation. Pakistani Finance Minister Ishaq Dar and Iran’s Interior Minister and Head of Joint Economic Commission Abdul Reza Rahmani Fazli signed the MoU, according to report.
The two neighboring countries inked another MoU on Five Year Strategic Trade Cooperation Plan as well as another MoU for cooperation on health research, training, medicine and medical technology.
Heading a high-ranking delegation, Rouhani arrived in Islamabad on Friday at the invitation of his Pakistani counterpart Mamnoon Hussain and Nawaz Sharif.
President Rouhani’s two-day visit to Pakistan is in response to Sharif’s last year trip to Iran.
Promoting bilateral ties and particularly boosting economic cooperation in the new atmosphere created by the nuclear deal between Tehran and six world powers (JCPOA), will be high on agenda during the visit.
