Speaker Slams EU’s Blind Obedience to US

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani on Wednesday deplored the European Union’s recent decision to put the military wing of the Lebanese Hezbollah Resistance Movement in the list of terrorist groups, and lashed out at the EU for its blind obedience to the US.

“Majlis (Islamic Consultative Assembly) regards the European Union’s heinous political move as blind obedience to the United States and deplores it,” Larijani said, adressing an open session of the parliament today.

He also praised Lebanese Hezbollah Resistance Movement as a role-model for suppressed Muslim people all around the world, and added that the group has always defended Lebanon against the Zionist regime of Israel over 6 decades.

Pointing to Hezbollah’s victory over Israel in the 33-Day War of 2006, Larijani said the resistance movement’s activities have shown “the correct path of fighting against the Zionist regime and arrogance.”

The Iranian official further derided the EU’s move as “ridiculous and reactionary”, which is a sign of their anguish.

The 28 members of the European Union on Monday agreed to label Hezbollah’s military wing a so-called terrorist organization, making it illegal to send money to the organization and enabling its assets in Europe to be frozen.

Britain and the Netherlands have been pushing for the blacklisting since May, but many countries had resisted, arguing that it could destabilize Lebanon, where Hezbollah is part of the government.
