Three Dead, 30 Injured after Thai Train Crashes into Tour Bus
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – At least three people were killed and 30 others injured on Sunday after a train hit a double-decker bus at a railway crossing in Thailand's Nakhon Pathom province, northwest of Bangkok.
The accident occurred early on Sunday morning when the bus transporting tourists to the popular island of Koh Samet, some 150km southeast of the capital, collided with the train, which was heading to a station in Kanchanaburi province.
The bus driver was killed on the spot and two people died in hospital. Those injured in the accident have been rushed to different hospitals in the area.
Road accidents are common in Thailand owing to lax respect for traffic rules and reckless driving, the Austalian Associated Press reported.
According to a study by the USA's University of Michigan, roads in Thailand are ranked as the second most dangerous in the world, with a mortality rate of 44 per 100,000 inhabitants, which is more than twice the world average and surpassed only by Namibia.
