Iran, EU Can Cooperate on Nuclear Technology: Official

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Islamic Republic of Iran and the European Union (EU) have the potential to promote their cooperation in various fields of science, including fusion technology, Spokesman for the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Behrouz Kamalvand said.

“(Iran’s) nuclear cooperation with the EU will be developed in various spheres”, Kamalvand told reporters in Tehran on Saturday.

He added that Iran and the EU can cooperate in different areas of science, including in fusion technology.

The remarks came after a joint press conference between Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and the European Union Foreign Policy Chief Federica Mogherini in Tehran.

Mogherini has traveled to the Iranian capital on a one-day visit at the head of a high-ranking political and economic delegation comprising seven European commissioners.

She last visited Iran in July 2015 shortly after Tehran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the United States, Britain, France, and Germany) finalized the nuclear deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), which ended all nuclear-related anti-Iran sanctions when implemented in early 2016.

Mogherini in February said that all 28 members of the European Union were backing the opening with Iran.

“It was very important to see the unity of the member states in the direction, intentions and preparations of this work we are doing with Iran,” she stated at the time.
