Iranian, Pakistani Navies to Stage Joint Naval Drills: Commander

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian navy plans to hold joint naval exercises with its Pakistani counterpart, Nay Commander of Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari announced on Saturday.

Speaking to Al-Alam ‘From Tehran’ television program, Sayyari said Iran is now hosting a group of Pakistani warships in southern port city of Bandar Abbas.

“We will host the fleet three or four days and in the final day we will stage daylong drills with the Pakistani warships in the region,” the commander added.

He further announced that the Iranian warships will dock at regional countries’ ports, adding that the details of the visits will be announced later.

The commander, however, said the Iranian fleets moving in northern and southern waters are considered as peace and friendship flotillas.

Two warships of the Pakistani Navy docked at Iran’s Bandar Abbas on Saturday.

The two warships will stay there for four days. Servicemen on board the Pakistani vessels are also going to visit the Iranian Navy’s training centers and equipment in the southern port.

Pakistan’s embassy in Tehran had announced earlier that the visiting fleet is under the command of Mohammad Shuaib, commander of the Pakistani Navy’s mine-laying unit.

The visit is a sign of close and brotherly ties between the two Muslim nations, conveys the message of regional peace and solidarity, and is meant to promote bilateral cooperation, the embassy had noted.

Iranian and Pakistani forces have already held a number of joint naval drills in Iran’s southern waters.
