India's External Affairs Minister in Tehran for Talks

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – India's External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj has arrived in Tehran to hold talks with senior Iranian officials on development of bilateral ties.

Sushma Swaraj landed in the Iranian capital late on Saturday on a two-day visit to boost ties with the Islamic Republic with a focus on raising India's oil imports and enhancing trade with Iran following the removal of anti-Tehran sanctions, The Financial Times reported on Saturday.

She is scheduled to sit down with her Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif on Sunday to review the development of relations between the two nations in the fields of energy, trade and banking sectors.

Her trip comes nearly one week after India’s Oil Minister Dharmendra Pradhan paid an official visit to Tehran. Pradhan arrived in Tehran on April 9. His two-day visit was aimed at boosting energy ties between the two nations.

All nuclear-related sanctions imposed on Iran were lifted after Tehran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) reached the deal on July 14, 2015 and started implementing it on January 16.
