Iran’s Kimia Alizadeh Earns Olympic Berth

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian taekwondoka Kimia Alizadeh booked a berth in the 2016 Olympic Games.

In the women’s -57kg, Alizadeh overpowered Shaleha Fitriana from Indonesia 19-0 at the Marriott Grand Ballroom in Pasay City in Manila, the Philippines.

She beat Nepalese Neema Gurung 15-2 in the semi-final and defeated Phannapa Harnsujin from Thailand 3-2 in the final match.

The winner and runner-up in each weight category will claim an Olympic qualification spot for their respective countries.

A total of 98 athletes from 36 countries across Asia compete in eight Olympic weight categories - four male and four female - during the tournament.
