MP: Mahathir Mohamed to Attend Rouhani’s Swearing-In Ceremony

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Former Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamed will attend the Iranian President-elect Hassan Rouhani’s swearing-in ceremony next week.

Head of the Iranian parliamentary delegation to Malaysia and Indonesia Vahid Ahmadi told Tasnim on Saturday that Mahathir Mohamed along with Malaysia’s foreign minister and probably the country’s parliament speaker will visit Tehran to attend the Iranian president-elect’s swearing-in ceremony.

The Iranian lawmaker noted that the main objective of the Iranian delegation’s visit was to extend Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani’s invitation to parliament speakers of Indonesia and Malaysia to attend the ceremony.

President-elect Hassan Rouhani will take oath before the parliament as Iran’s seventh president on August 4th, a day after endorsement of his presidency by Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei.

Hassan Rouhani emerged victorious in the presidential election on June 14, which was marked by a high voter turnout.

The voter turnout in the election stood at 72.7 percent and Rouhani gained 50.7 percent of a total of 36,704,156 ballots counted.
