Iranian, Japanese Officials Discuss Tehran-Tokyo Cooperation in Nuclear Energy Fields

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Ali Akbar Salehi and Japan's Ambassador to Tehran Hiroyasu Kobayashi explored avenues for boosting cooperation between the two countries, especially in different fields of nuclear energy.

At the meeting held in the Iranian capital on Sunday, Salehi and Kobayashi exchanged views on the expansion of joint fields for cooperation between Tehran and Tokyo.

Cooperation in different fields of nuclear energy, nuclear safety in particular was among the main topics discussed by Salehi and Kobayashi.

Back in November 2015, Salehi travelled to Japan to hold talks with the country’s officials on promotion of nuclear cooperation, including in the safety field.

During his four-day stay in Tokyo, the AEOI head sat down with Japanese nuclear scientists and officials from Japan Nuclear Energy Safety Organization (JNES) and Nuclear Regulations Authority (NRA).
