French Politician Optimistic about Future of Iran-West Relations
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Director of France’s Strategic and International Relations Institute Pascal Bounifas expressed the hope that bilateral relations between Iran and the West would improve in the near future.
“Each side has its own priorities: lifting sanctions and facilitating trade relations is prioritized by Iran and the nuclear issue is prioritized by the Europeans,” Bounifas told Euronews.
The French politician also expected that Iranian President-elect Hassan Rouhani’s presidency would herald expansion of ties between Iran and the West.
President-elect Hassan Rouhani, who emerged victorious in Iran’s presidential election on June 14, will take oath before the parliament as the country’s seventh president on August 4th, a day after endorsement of his presidency by Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei.
The US, Israel, and some of their allies have repeatedly accused Iran of pursuing non-civilian objectives in its nuclear energy program.
But Tehran has categorically rejected the accusation, arguing that it is entitled to develop nuclear technology for peaceful purposesas a signatory to the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and a member of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
