Large Group of Iranian Prisoners Extradited from Kuwait

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Based on an extradition treaty, 47 Iranian prisoners in the Persian Gulf state of Kuwait returned home to serve the rest of their sentences in Iran.

The extradition took place on the basis of a judicial agreement between Tehran and Kuwait City and the diplomatic talks over the past two years, Iran’s Foreign Ministry announced.

That number of prisoners being extradited to Iran all at once marked the largest transfer of convicts to Iran after the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

Iran and Kuwait have already signed an extradition treaty, which allows Iranian prisoners in Kuwait and Kuwaiti inmates in Iran to return to their respective countries and complete their prison terms at home.
