Portuguese Official Urges Direct Flights between Iran, Portugal
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Portuguese Deputy Foreign Minister Jorge Costa Oliveira expressed his country’s willingness for investment in Iran and called for direct flights between Tehran and Lisbon.
In a Sunday meeting in Tehran with Mohammad Khazaei, the head of Iran’s Foreign Investment Organization and a deputy economy minister, Oliveira expressed his country’s willingness for bilateral cooperation and investment in Iran following the removal of anti-Tehran sanctions.
The senior Portuguese official added that launching direct flights between Iran and Portugal would help facilitate promotion of economic cooperation between the two nations.
Khazaei, for his part, stressed the Iranian government’s resolve for promotion of mutual cooperation with Portugal in various fields, including banking, business, investment and tourism.
He added that major Iranian banks are ready to cooperate with Portuguese banks.
International interest in ties with Iran has been growing since Tehran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) on July 14, 2015 finalized a comprehensive nuclear deal and started implementing it on January 16.
The agreement, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), terminated all nuclear-related sanctions imposed on Iran.
