Iran’s FM Meets Latvian President in Riga

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, who is in Latvia as the final leg of a European tour, met with Latvian President Raimonds Vejonis for talks.

The top Iranian diplomat arrived in Riga on Thursday morning after visiting three other European states.

In the meeting at the Latvian president’s official residence, Mr. Vejonis expressed the hope that the visit would help expand Tehran-Riga relations in the political, parliamentary, trade and tourism fields.

For his part, Zarif said Iran and Latvia have the potential for enhanced economic and financial relations, and called for efforts to facilitate interaction between the two countries’ banks.

Pointing to the developing political ties between Iran and Latvia, Zarif also stressed the need for continued political consultation and cooperation.

They further discussed the developments and crises in Western Asia.

Travelling with a 60-strong delegation of Iranian businessmen, Zarif visited Poland, Finland and Sweden before heading to Latvia.
