Iran's New President Praises People's Support for Islamic Republic
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran's new President Hassan Rouhani lauded strong relations between Iranian nation and government, and stressed that Iranian nation have made enemies of the country disappointed by their large turnout in June 14 presidential election.
“Iran, which the ill-wishers assumed to be invovled into an internal dispute due to (international) isolation and sanctions and get entangled in a big gap between the government and the people, was able to create epic after massive participation of people from all walks of life (in presidential election),” Rouhani said, addressing the endorsement ceremony here in Tehran on Saturday evening.
Elsewhere in his address President Rouhani stressed that in addition to his efforts for improving the nation’s economic status and welfare standards, steps will be taken at the international scene for improving Iran’s reputation in the global scene.
Such steps will be taken in accordance with the national interests and lifting of the present day unjust sanctions,he said, adding, “Although there are many shortcomings and problems in the country, but the future horizons are very bright and inspiring.”
Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei on Saturday endorsed Hassan Rouhani as Iran’s new president.
In a ceremony marking the official start of Rouhani’s first term in office in Tehran on Saturday, Ayatollah Khamenei endorsed Rouhani’s presidency.
Based on Article 110 of Iran's Constitution the President had to receive the Leader's approval.
Heads of the three branches of the government, secretary of the Guardian Council, former President Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, and a number of members of the Assembly of Experts and the Parliament, the Cabinet and foreign ambassadors in Tehran attended the ceremony.
Rouhani will be sworn in as President in a separate ceremony due to be in the Iranian Parliament on Sunday.
