Iranian Diplomat Urges Commitment to JCPOA

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – An Iranian deputy foreign minister reminded the parties to a lasting nuclear deal with Tehran to live up to their undertakings and remove obstacles to banking interaction with Iran.

In a meeting with Swiss Foreign Minister Didier Burkhalter in Switzerland on Thursday, Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for American and European Affairs Majid Takht Ravanchi stressed that the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) needs to fully honor commitments under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), particularly when it comes to the removal of banking restrictions against Tehran.

Tehran and the six countries reached conclusion over the text of the nuclear agreement on July 14, 2015. The accord took effect in January and was supposed to terminate all nuclear-related sanctions against Iran all at once, but its implementation has been hampered mainly due to US policies.

Elsewhere in the Thursday meeting, Takht Ravanchi stressed the need for closer political and economic cooperation between Tehran and Bern.

For his part, Burkhalter voiced Switzerland’s preparedness to boost relations with Iran and promote cooperation in the regional developments.

Takht Ravanchi travelled to Switzerland to attend a round of political negotiations between Tehran and Bern.
