Leader Appoints Ahmadinejad as Member of Expediency Council

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei in a decree appointed former president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad as a member of the country's Expediency Council (EC).

“Given your valuable eight-year efforts during the vital responsibility as the president of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and given the ample experience you have learned at that post, I appoint you as member of the Expediency Council,” Supreme Leader’s said in a decree on August 4, 2013.

The Expediency Council is an administrative assembly appointed by the Supreme Leader and was created upon the revision to the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Iran on 6 February 1988.

It was originally set up to resolve differences or conflicts between the Iranian Islamic Parliament and Guardians Council (GC).

Members of the council are chosen by the Supreme Leader once every five years.
