Iran’s President, Azeri Speaker Stress Closer Ties

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The new Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and visiting Azeri Parliament Speaker Uktai Assadeve on Monday asked for closer ties between the two neighboring countries.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran always favors further development and expansion of relations with all countries, particularly with the neighboring states,” President Rouhani said in the meeting held in Tehran.

Referring to the excellent cultural, historical and regional potentials of the two countries for further expansion of ties, he emphasized, “Cooperation between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of Azerbaijan can leave impacts on broadening and strengthening of bilateral ties, and pave the path for greater regional interactions and cooperation.”

Assadeve, too, conveyed the warm greetings of the Azeri president, government, and nation to the new Iranian president.

“Azerbaijan Republic believes the Islamic Republic of Iran is one of the most important countries in the Middle East and always favors broadening and strengthening of relations with your country in all fields,” the Azeri speaker said.

Iran and Azerbaijan enjoy close economic, political, social and cultural ties and Iran was one of the first countries to establish full diplomatic relations with Azerbaijan.
