Iran’s President Urges Efforts to Make Most of JCPOA

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani called on all sectors and individuals in the country to intensify internal cooperation and take the opportunities provided by the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), a lasting deal on Tehran’s peaceful nuclear program.

On Saturday evening, President Rouhani had a meeting with the Iranian authorities that were in charge of handling a long process of nuclear negotiations with the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany), which led to the achievement of the JCPOA.

During the meeting, the president said now that the pre-JCPOA era is gone, the whole media outlets, the Parliament and the administration need to join hands and figure out how to take advantage of the post-JCPOA situation to serve the country’s national interests.

Pointing to the opposing voices in the US, Europe, the region and even in some neighbors of Iran, President Rouhani said attempts are underway to derail the JCPOA, stressing that it is the Iranians’ duty to protect such an achievement and not give the enemies any kind of excuse.

Some of the nuclear deal’s purposes were creation of jobs for the Iranian youth, economic growth and employment of joint oil and gas fields, the president added, saying, “Today, everybody, particularly the mass media, the university professors and the entrepreneurs should join hands and look for ways to better seize the opportunities brought by the JCPOA.”

Tehran and the Group 5+1 (also known as the P5+1 or E3+3) on July 14, 2015, reached a conclusion over the text of the JCPOA.

The accord took effect in January and was supposed to terminate all nuclear-related sanctions against Iran all at once, but its implementation has been hampered mainly due to US policies.
