Car Bomb Kills 9 North of Baghdad: Sources

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – At least nine people were killed and 32 wounded on Tuesday when a car packed with explosives was detonated in a vegetable market just north of Baghdad, security and medical sources said.

The vegetable market, located in the northern neighborhood of Rashidiyah, was crowded with people when it came under attack, Reuters reported.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the blast in Rashidiya, but the Daesh (also known as ISIL and ISIS) terrorist group regularly carries out such bombings in the war-stricken Arab country.

Baghdad is on high alert for attacks after a blast in the central Karrada district on July 3 killed at least 292 people, making it one of the deadliest bombings in Iraq since the US-led invasion of the country in 2003.

Daesh has turned increasingly to ad hoc attacks, which Iraqi officials have touted as proof that battlefield setbacks are weakening the terrorists.
