Spanish PM: Madrid Keen to Develop Ties with Tehran

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy in a message to Iran's new President Hassan Rouhani expressed his country's willingness to enhance cooperation with Iran.

In a message submitted by Spanish Ambassador to Tehran Pedro Antonio Villena Perez to Iran’s Foreign Ministry Director General for Western Europe Abdulqassem Delfi, Rojoy referred to the old history of ties between the two countries and said that the European country is ready to boost bilateral relations with Iran.

Also during the meeting, the Spanish envoy further expressed confidence that Iran and Spain can expand and promote bilateral relations in future.

Hassan Rouhani emerged victorious in the presidential election of June 14, which was marked by a high voter turnout.

He then took the oath of office before the parliament as the country’s seventh president on August 4, after endorsement of his presidency by Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei.
