Syrian Forces Launch Massive Operation in Khan Tuman, Killing Dozens of Terrorists
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Syrian army troops backed by allied forces, in a unique operation in the northern village of Khan Tuman, attacked positions of foreign-backed terrorists, killing and injuring more than 40 militants.
During the operation on the southern outskirts of Aleppo on Thursday, two tanks and three vehicles equipped with heavy machine guns belonging to the terrorists were destroyed, according to the Arabic-language al-Ahed news website.
The rebels indented to move toward the positions of the Syrian army when they were targeted by the Syrian Air Force and the missile unite of the army.
In another development, a leader of the Faylaq al-Sham terrorist group was killed in clashes with the Syrian army troops in the southwestern parts of Aleppo.
Aleppo has been divided between government forces in the west and militants in the east since 2012, a year after the conflict broke out in Syria.
During the past days, a number of the militants have laid down their weapons in Aleppo and surrendered themselves to government troops, who are increasingly making more gains in the embattled province.
Syria has been gripped by civil war since March 2011 with various terrorist groups, including Daesh (also known as ISIS or ISIL), currently controlling parts of it.
According to a new report by the Syrian Center for Policy Research, the conflict has claimed the lives of over 470,000 people, injured 1.9 million others, and displaced nearly half of the country’s pre-war population of about 23 million within or beyond its borders.
