Analyst Views Hezbollah's Victory in 33-Day War as "Turning Point"

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Lebanese Hezbollah’s victory against the Zionist regime of Israel in the 33-day war was a historical turning point in the region’s military and political equations, a senior political analyst said.

“The 33-Day war was a historical turning point in the region’s military and political equations ... and Israel, which has always enjoyed the US and the West's support and used to defeat Arab armies in various wars, witnessed a defeat in confrontations with Lebanese Hezbollah,” Hassan Royvaran told Tasnim Tuesday.

“The Hezbollah was able to change many of the regional equations in favor of the regional countries," he stated, adding that the development encouraged regional nations, removed the West's hegemony and led to the (emergence of the) Islamic awakening.

The war also called the 2006 Israel-Hezbollah War and known in Lebanon as the July War was a 33-day military conflict in Lebanon, northern Israel and the Golan Heights.

The conflict started on July 2006, and continued until a United Nations-brokered ceasefire went into effect in the morning on 14 August 2006, though it formally ended on 8 September 2006 when Israel lifted its naval blockade of Lebanon.

The Tel Aviv regime launched two wars on Lebanon in 2000 and 2006. About 1,200 Lebanese, most of them civilians, were killed in the 33-Day War of 2006.

On both occasions, however, Hezbollah fighters defeated the Israeli forces and Tel Aviv was forced to retreat without achieving any of its objectives.
