Iranian Official Raps Europe’s Paradoxical Stance on Human Rights

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Shamkhani censured the European countries for a big paradox in their words and deeds when it comes to advocating human rights, referring to their stances on Syria and its crisis-hit people.

While the Syrian people in the areas controlled by Daesh (ISIL) and al-Qaeda terrorist groups are in dire need of relief aids, the European countries keep imposing sanctions against the Damascus government without caring about the humanitarian issues, Shamkhani said at a meeting with President of French National Assembly Claude Bartolone in Tehran on Tuesday.

He also touched on Europe’s refusal to accept refugees or its misbehavior in hosting the asylum seekers, saying such misconduct runs counter to the humanitarian and human rights norms and signifies Europe’s refusal to shoulder responsibility for caring for the people plagued with terrorism.

While a huge number of people displaced by wars in the Middle East –mainly Syrians- are seeking refuge in Europe, certain European governments have been widely criticized for their way of handling the flow of refugees.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has also called on the European countries to fulfill their humanitarian duty and adopt a positive approach towards the Middle Eastern refugees escaping war and poverty.
