Azerbaijani University Calls for Closer Academic Cooperation with Iran

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The chancellor of Azerbaijan’s Baku State University praised the growing cultural ties between Tehran and Baku and stressed the need for closer academic cooperation with Iranian state universities.

Speaking in a meeting with Iranian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Mohsen Pakaeen in Baku on Tuesday, Prof. Abel Maharramov elaborated on the international relations of Baku State University and its ties with some Iranian universities, including Tehran and Tabriz state universities.

The Azeri official further stressed the need for closer cooperation between the universities of the two countries in various areas of science.

The Iranian diplomat, for his part, emphasized that closer cooperation between the two countries’ universities in various areas, including nanotechnology, would be a major move to strengthen scientific ties.

He also announced the chancellor of University of Tabriz Mohammad-Reza Pour-Mohammadi will pay a visit to Baku in the near future.

Iran and Azerbaijan have accelerated efforts in recent years to forge closer partnership in various areas.

Back in February, Azeri President Ilham Aliyev paid an official visit to Tehran, during which the two sides signed eleven Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) and agreements to promote mutual cooperation in a range of fields.
