Syrian Forces Foil Militants’ Counterattack in Aleppo

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Resistance forces backed by Syrian Army troops managed to repel a major attack by armed groups on a recently-liberated refugee camp north of Aleppo, killing a number of the militants.

According to Tasnim dispatches, Palestinian al-Quds Brigades backed by the Syrian Army countered an overnight attack by armed groups to capture Handarat Camp north of Aleppo.

Earlier this week, the Quds Brigades and Syrian Army forces had retaken the strategic camp from the foreign-backed militants in the area.

In another development heavy clashes erupted between the Syrian Army’s units and the al-Nusra Front terrorist group south of Aleppo.

The attacks came after a week-long truce, brokered by the US and Russia, collapsed on Wednesday.

In the meantime, talks between the US and Russia on reviving the ceasefire have broken up without progress in New York.

Aleppo, once Syria’s commercial and industrial hub, has been divided roughly in two since 2012, with the government controlling the west and terrorists the east.

Syria has been gripped by civil war since March 2011 with various terrorist groups, including Daesh (also known as ISIS or ISIL), currently controlling parts of it.

According to a report by the Syrian Center for Policy Research, the conflict has claimed the lives of over 470,000 people, injured 1.9 million others, and displaced nearly half of the country’s pre-war population of about 23 million within or beyond its borders.
