Syrian Army Liberates Strategic Hill North of Aleppo
DAMASCUS (Tasnim) – Syrian Army troops backed by allied forces managed to recapture the Um al-Shaqif hill north of the embattled city of Aleppo after heavy clashes with foreign-backed terrorists in the area.
According to Tasnim dispatches, the Syrian Army forces retook full control of the hill, killing and injuring dozens of terrorists.
In another development, terrorists launched deadly attacks on several neighborhoods of central Aleppo, including the Suleiman al-Halabi district, killing 15 civilians and injuring 55 others.
The attacks came after Syrian forces captured Farafra neighborhood, also in central Aleppo, near an ancient citadel following several days of intense fighting with the terrorist groups there.
Aleppo, once Syria’s commercial and industrial hub, has been divided roughly in two parts since 2012, with the government controlling the west and terrorists the east.
Syria has been gripped by civil war since March 2011 with various terrorist groups, including Daesh (also known as ISIS or ISIL), currently controlling parts of it.
According to a report by the Syrian Center for Policy Research, the conflict has claimed the lives of over 470,000 people, injured 1.9 million others, and displaced nearly half of the country’s pre-war population of about 23 million within or beyond its borders.
