Damascus Offers East Aleppo Militants to Leave Besieged Area Safely

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Syrian authorities are ready to guarantee safe passage to militants who want to leave the besieged parts of eastern Aleppo, sources said on Monday.

"The Syrian government guarantees safe passage to all militants ready to leave the area. They will be given a chance to leave for other areas if they choose, taking their light arms with them," a Syrian Foreign Ministry source said, Sputnik reported.

Syrian authorities are also set to offer any help necessary to civilians still trapped in the area, the source added.

Fighting in Aleppo has recently escalated with the Syrian army and local militia forces having managed to encircle large groups of militants in eastern districts of Aleppo. Government troops began to advance after the September 12 ceasefire collapsed.

Syria has been mired in civil war since 2011, with Syrian army forces government forces fighting numerous opposition groups, as well as terrorist formations.
