President Underlines Equal Civil Rights for All Iranians

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani stressed that all citizens, irrespective of their race and religion, are equal before the law, and that no one in his administration should make a distinction based on religion or ethnicity.

“We must treat  religious minorities equally. Unity and solidarity are not created by slogans. If we are after security we will have to provide everyone with equal opportunities,” Rouhani said during the farewell ceremony of former interior minister in Tehran today.

“We do not have Persian administration in Iran, nor do we have a Turkish or Arab administration. We have the administration of Iran and (it) is a unique umbrella that has brought together everyone, and that is the unique system of the Islamic Republic of Iran,” the Iranian president added.

Rouhani further stressed that the administration of “prudence and hope” will consider no difference between Iranian people as far as their ethnicity, race or religion are concerned, and stated that all Iranians should enjoy equal civil rights.

In relevant remarks on August 4, the Iranian president had pointed to the massive participation of people in the country’s recent presidential election, saying, “All of those who voted, whether they voted for me, someone else, or even if they didn't vote, all of them are Iranian citizens and have citizenship rights.”

Hassan Rouhani won Iran's presidential election of June 14, which was marked by a high voter turnout, winning 50.7 percent of a total of 36,704,156 ballots counted.
