Persepolis, Esteghlal Victorious in Iran Professional League
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian popular football teams Persepolis and Esteghlal defeated their rivals at the eighth week of the Iran Professional League (IPL) on Saturday.
Persepolis beat Naft Tehran 3-0 at the Azadi Stadium in Tehran.
Hossein Mahini opened the scoring for the host in the 14th minute from the penalty spot.
Mehdi Taremi was on target in the 30th minute and Kamal Kamyabinia scored Persepolis’s third goal with eight minutes remaining.
Persepolis went top of the IPL table with the victory after Tractor Sazi drew 0-0 with Saipa.
Esteghlal edged past Siahjamegan 1-0 in Mashhad.
Kaveh Rezaei found the back of the net with a swirling long-range shot in the 27th minute.
Furthermore, Zobahan defeated Sepahan 2-0 in Isfahan derby and reigning champion Esteghlal Khuzestan defeated Machine Sazi 3-1 in its away game.
