Persepolis Held by Esteghlal Khuzestan in Iran League
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Persepolis football team was held to a 1-1 draw by Esteghlal Khuzestan in Iran Professional League on Thursday.
Rahim Mehdi Zohaivi gave the holder a lead in the 35th minute in the match held in Ahvaz’s Ghadir Stadium.
In the 53rd minute, Persepolis striker Ali Alipour was brought down in the area and the referee awarded the visiting team a penalty but Hossein Mahini failed to score.
Persepolis continued its supremacy in the second half and eventually equalized the match with a header by Farshad Ahmadzadeh in the 83rd minute.
Earlier in the day, Tractor Sazi was held to a 2-2 draw by Foolad in Tabriz and Naft Tehran earned a late 2-1 victory over Zobahan.
Persepolis arch rival Esteghlal will play Saipa on Friday in Tehran.
Persepolis stays top of the table with 19 points from nine weeks, two points clear of Tractor Sazi.
