Iran Clearly Announces Stance in Support of Oppressed Nations in Region: Shamkhani

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Shamkhani underlined that the Islamic Republic has an unwavering policy to back the oppressed people in the Middle East region, including Yemenis, and feels no fear in declaring such policy.

“Iran will definitely continue the path of backing the oppressed people and nations in the region,” Shamkhani told reporters in Tehran on Friday.

The country feels no fear in declaring its direct support for those oppressed governments and nations, he added.

Shamkhani further rejected Washington’s recent allegations against Tehran that the Islamic Republic has had a hand in the missile attacks on US warships in the Red Sea off the Yemeni coast and said such claims are made to divert attentions from the US support for the Saudi war crimes in Yemen.

The allies of the US have been humiliated by the Yemeni people with repeated failures in the Arab country, he added.

The developments came as Yemen’s defenseless people have been under massive attacks by the coalition led by the Saudi regime for nearly 19 months but Riyadh has reached none of its objectives in Yemen so far.

Since March 2015, Saudi Arabia and some of its Arab allies have been launching deadly airstrikes against the Houthi Ansarullah movement in an attempt to restore power to the fugitive former President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, a close ally of Riyadh.

Nearly 10,000 Yemenis, including 4,000 women and children, have lost their lives in the deadly military campaign.
