Senior Cleric Urges Muslims to Prevent Civil War in Egypt

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – World Muslims, particularly various Islamic organizations should do all they can to resolve the ongoing crisis in Egypt through dialogue and prevent the situation from spiraling into a civil war, a prominent Iranian cleric said.

“It is a duty for every single one of us to, firstly, pray as much as we can, and then to advise and warn so that a civil war in Egypt - which is what the arrogance wants - is averted,” Grand Ayatollah Abdollah Javadi Amoli said Monday.

He urged all international Islamic bodies and institutions to join hands in order to come up with a peaceful settlement for the ongoing crisis in Egypt and said, “The World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought, the Ahl al-Bait World Forum, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), and the other Islamic organizations and bodies must do all they can to stop Egypt from descending into civil war."

In similar remarks, Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei had on August 8 expressed concern about the tense conditions in Egypt.

“The possibility of outbreak of civil war in this country (Egypt) has been increased, and this is a tragedy.”

Ayatollah Khamenei further called on all Egyptian political and religious groups to learn lessons from the presence of foreign-backed terrorists in Syria and from Israeli plots against the Islamic world, and warned the Egyptian nation against the grave consequences of the current circumstances.

The Supreme Leader also described foreign intervention as the root cause of crises that have plagued a number of Islamic countries across the region.

“These problems are mostly injected and imposed (against Islamic countries) by aliens,” Ayatollah Khamenei stated.

The Leader further stated that problems and conflicts in the region will be resolved by Muslim nations' determination to confront "biased meddling" and plots of enemies, who are trying to create rift and discord among Muslims.
