Iran to Play Papua New Guinea in Friendly

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran will play a friendly match against Papua New Guinea ahead of Syria match in the 2018 World Cup qualifier.

Team Melli was originally scheduled to face Thailand but after the death of Thailand's King Bhumibol Adulyadej the match was called off.

Now, the Iranian football federation has announced that Team Melli will meet Papua New Guinea in Malaysia on November 11.

Four days later, Carlos Queiroz’s men will play Syria in Group A.

Iran tops the group with 10 points.

The top two in each group reach the 2018 finals with the two third-placed sides meeting over two legs for the chance to face a CONCACAF team in a final playoff for a ticket to Russia.
