Minister: Iran-Turkey Ties Serve Regional Peace

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Iran’s Minister of Communications and Information Technology Mahmoud Vaezi highlighted the contribution that Iran-Turkey amicable relations can make towards peace in a region suffering from terrorism.

Tehran and Ankara enjoy friendly ties in cultural, economic, regional and international issues, and such relations can work for peace in the region, which is beset with various crises and acts of terrorism, Vaezi said at a ceremony in Turkish embassy in Tehran on Sunday, held to celebrate the Republic Day of Turkey.

He also hailed the efforts by Iran, Turkey and some other regional countries in the fight against terrorism.

Vaezi then praised Turkish President Recep Tayyib Erdogan for managing the situation after a failed coup attempt in July.

In September, President Erdogan thanked Iran for supporting the Ankara government in the early hours of July’s futile coup, saying Iran and Turkey can cooperate and play a “determining” role in defusing the ongoing crises and establishing security in the region, particularly in Syria and Iraq.
