Iran Eyes Broader Ties with Cyprus in Science, Tourism

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif called for efforts to extend cooperation between Tehran and Nicosia in areas including tourism industry, academic programs and new technologies.

In a meeting with President of the Cypriot House of Representatives Demetris Syllouris in Tehran on Monday, Foreign Minister Zarif hailed the growing political and trade ties between Iran and Cyprus.

He also expressed the hope that the two nations would promote cooperation in other areas such as the exchange of tourists, science, and various advanced technologies.

For his part, the Cypriot official voiced the European country’s readiness to enhance cooperation with Iran at the bilateral and international levels.

There has been growing enthusiasm for trade ties with Iran since Tehran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) on July 14, 2015 reached a conclusion over the text of a comprehensive 159-page deal on Tehran’s nuclear program and started implementing it on January 16.

The comprehensive nuclear deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), terminated nuclear-related sanctions imposed on Iran.
