Russia, China Stress Close Ties with Iran

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Russian and Chinese foreign ministers in separate messages to their Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif voiced their countries’ willingness to boost bilateral relations with Iran.

In a congratulatory message to Zarif, Russian Foreign Minister Sergai Lavrov referred to the two countries’ friendly relations and common stances on most regional and international issues, and stated that his country attaches great importance to Tehran-Moscow ties.

Lavrov also called for closer bilateral cooperation with Tehran for ensuring mutual interests, regional solidarity, and strengthening the foundations of the international and regional peace and stability.

In separate message, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, too, expressed the hope that Beijing-Tehran relations will further expand during the new Iranian government’s tenure.

The Chinese top diplomat also wished success and prosperity for the Iranian nation and the new Iranian government.

Earlier this month, President Hassan Rouhani stated that his administration will not bring about any change in the principles of the country’s foreign policy.

The chief executive also announced that a review of Iran’s foreign policy does not mean “a change in the principles and fundamentals" but a change in methods of dealing with various issues in the foreign policy field.

He also described the issue of foreign policy as “very delicate” and called for safeguarding national interests at a time the country’s foreign policy is grappling with many problems.
