Russian Federation Council Chief Due in Iran Sunday

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Russia's upper house of parliament speaker is scheduled to pay an official visit to Iran on Sunday evening to discuss ways to boost bilateral relations between the two countries.

Heading a high-ranking delegation, Russian Federation Council Chairwoman Valentina Ivanovna Matviyenko will arrive in Tehran on November 13 to hold talks with senior Iranian officials, the Tass news agency reported.

She will travel to the Iranian capital at the invitation of Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani.

During her two-day visit, she is planned to sit down with senior Iranian officials, including Larijani, to discuss expansion of economic ties, regional cooperation, and ways to help implement bilateral agreements signed by Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin during an August meeting in Baku.

Trade between the two countries during the first half of 2016 stood at USD 1.8 billion, almost 70 percent up from the same period last year.
