Iran, S. Africa Ink Defense Cooperation MoU

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Ministers from Iran and South Africa signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Tuesday on the expansion of military and defensive cooperation.

In a meeting in Pretoria on Tuesday, Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan and South Africa’s Minister of Defense and Military Veterans Nosiviwe Noluthando Mapisa-Nqakula signed an MoU to boost military interaction between the two countries.

Speaking to reporters, the two ranking officials said the MoU entails programs to ensure regional and international peace, stability and security, as well as efforts for decisive fight against terrorism.

The document will also promote mutual cooperation on maritime security, training courses, and exchange of experience in the battle against organized crimes.

Heading a military delegation, General Dehqan is in South Africa at the official invitation of his South African counterpart.
