UN Resolution on Syria Shows Resistance Front Influence: Iranian Official

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Guardian Council Spokesman Abbasali Kadkhodaei hailed a United Nations Security Council resolution on a nationwide ceasefire in Syria, saying it proves the influential role of the Resistance Front in the council’s decision-making.

“The passing of the recent UN Security Council resolution on a ceasefire in Syria shows the Resistance (Front’s) influence on the council’s decision-making,” Kadkhodaei said in a post on social media.

The UNSC on Saturday unanimously passed the resolution, which was drafted by Russia and endorses the Syrian ceasefire.

Security Council members welcomed the agreements reached through the mediation of Iran, Russia, and Turkey and stressed the importance of its “full and immediate implementation.”

They also stressed that they see the upcoming Astana meeting as an important step in the process toward the reconciliation of the Syrian conflict, according to media reports.

The UN body further reaffirmed its commitment to the “sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity of the Syrian Arab Republic” and reiterated that the only way to resolve the Syrian crisis is to begin a complex inter-Syrian political process.
