President Rouhani Pledges Iran’s Continued Fight against Terrorism

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said that the country is resolved to continue its campaign against terrorist groups in the Middle East region, saying the Islamic Republic has always provided supports for countries fighting the inauspicious phenomenon.

In a live televised interview late on Sunday, President Rouhani briefed the people on the most important issues of the country and the world as well as his administration’s efforts in different political, economic, cultural and defense fields.

He highlighted Iran’s determination to combat terrorism in the region, and said, “We have never hesitated to help any country that has requested (for our assistance) in this regard.”

The president further emphasized that Tehran has provided supports for the Baghdad and Damascus governments in line with this policy.

He went on to say that terrorism in the region is nearing its end, adding that over the past two years, major moves have been made in the fight against the phenomenon.

In recent years, the Middle East region has been plagued with Takfiri terrorist groups like Daesh (also known as ISIS or ISIL), which are believed to have been created and supported by the West and some regional Arab countries.

The terrorist groups, which claim to be Islamic but whose actions are anything but, have been committing heinous crimes not only against non-Muslims, but mostly against Muslims in the region.

Iraq and Syria have been gripped by insurgency with various terrorist groups, including Daesh, currently controlling parts of their territories.

In the meantime, Iran has remained a close ally of the countries and supports their legitimate governments in the face of foreign-backed militancy.
