Syria Army Repels Major Attacks by Terrorists in Damascus, Hama

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Syria’s army and its allies repelled a major offensive by Jaish al-Islam terrorist group in the countryside of Damascus, leaving large groups of them dead and injured.

Syrian forces clashed with Jaish al-Islam terrorists in the East Ghouta region on Sunday, after the militants attempted to sneak into the areas of Hazrama and nearby hilltop of Tal Farzat in a surprise attack, according to al-Masdar news website.

Large groups of the terrorists were killed in the clashes and a number of their vehicles destroyed.

In a separate development, the army troops pushed back the terrorists from the Jabhat Fateh al-Sham (formerly known as al-Nusra Front) in the eastern countryside of Hama on Sunday, claiming the lives of scores of them in Salamiyah area.

Syria has been the scene of a foreign-backed crisis since early 2011.

According to a report by the Syrian Center for Policy Research, the conflict has claimed the lives of over 470,000 people, injured 1.9 million others, and displaced nearly half of the country’s pre-war population of about 23 million within or beyond its borders.
