Minister: Iran on Front Line of Fighting terrorism, Violence

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s minister of intelligence described the Islamic Republic as the standard bearer of fight against terrorism, and said a look at the record of those countries that boast of combating terrorism reveals that they actually spawned state terrorism.

“Supporting any counter-terrorism and anti-violence measure is an overriding strategy and principle of the Islamic Republic, and as such all state institutions and organs steer in that direction,” Seyed Mahmoud Alawi told reporters here in Tehran on Saturday.

He made the comments on the sidelines of the first national congress to honor 17 thousand people who lost their lives to terrorist acts.

He called Iran a victim of acts of terrorism and a flag-bearer of  the global fight against this phenomenon, but censured those countries which only claim to advocate counter-terrorism measures, saying, “When we take a look at their records, we realize that they themselves are instigators of state-sponsored terrorism.”

Since its establishment in 1979, the Islamic Republic of Iran has suffered numerous terrorist acts that have made it the prime victim of terrorism in the world.
