Ukraine, Georgia Call for Expansion of Ties with Iran

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Minister of foreign affairs of Ukraine and Georgia in separate felicitation messages to their Iranian counterpart, Mohammad Javad Zarif, on Saturday, called for expansion of ties with the Islamic Republic.

Ukraine's Foreign Minister Leonid Kozhara, in his message, expressed hope that relations between the two countries will expand in the future.

On August 4, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani underlined that Iran and Ukraine relations are expanding in different areas, especially in industrial and agricultural fields.

Speaking in a meeting with Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Konstyantyn Hryshchenko, Rouhani said, “The two countries have had good relations in agricultural and industrial fields.”

The Georgian Foreign Minister Maya Panjikidze, too, said ties between the two sides have improved in a cordial atmosphere,adding that Zarif’s appointment as Iran's foreign minister could provide the appropriate ground for deeper bilateral relations.

The beginning of 2010 saw increasing cooperation between the Iran and Georgia. Diplomats from Iran's foreign ministry visited Tbilisi in May 2010 to discuss Iranian investment in the construction of a hydroelectric plant as well as Iran's intention to import electricity from the country.
