Iranian MPs to Visit Nuclear Facilities for Biannual Report

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Members of the Iranian parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission will visit the country’s nuclear facilities in Natanz and Fordow to prepare a biannual report on implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), a lawmaker said.

The visit, to take place within the next few days, will be part of efforts to prepare a report on the implementation process of the July 2015 nuclear deal between Tehran and world powers over the past six months, member of the parliamentary commission Abolfazl Hassanbeigi told Tasnim on Monday.

The second biannual report on the JCPOA will be submitted to the parliament’s presiding board by March 20 after visits to the nuclear facilities and a meeting with members of the Iranian team engaged in nuclear negotiations with the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany), he added.

The lawmaker noted that Abbas Araqchi and Majid Takht Ravanchi, two senior nuclear negotiators and deputy foreign ministers, are going to attend an extraordinary session of the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission on Wednesday.

Tehran and the Group 5+1 on July 14, 2015, reached a conclusion over the text of the JCPOA, which took effect in January 2016.

According to a law that requires the Iranian administration to safeguard the nation’s achievements and nuclear rights, the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission has been tasked with monitoring “the proper implementation” of the JCPOA, and is required to submit a report on the issue to the presiding board of the parliament every six months.
