Suspect Identified in Fatal Stabbing at Texas High School

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - A 17-year-old teen was charged with murder following a violent stabbing on a high school campus in the US city of Houston Wednesday, local media reported.

The deadly stabbing, escalated from a confrontation between a group of students on the Spring High School campus and possibly gang-related, claimed a young life and wounded three other students early Wednesday, Xinhua reported.

Luis Alonzo Alfaro, the suspect, was detained and questioned together with two other persons of interest soon after the incident. He was determined to be the sole suspect hours later, the real-time report of the Houston Chronicle said.

Alfaro admitted pulling a knife during the fight and stabbing four people. One of them, 17-year-old Joshua Broussard was killed at the scene while three others suffered injuries, including one in critical condition.

Alfaro was charged with murder late Wednesday. People 17 or older are considered adults under Texas criminal law.

The stabbing happened at 7:10 am local time in a hallway leading to a cafeteria on the campus in north Houston. Some parents said the fight was the continuation of a disturbance that broke out Tuesday. Officials at the school would not confirm their comments.

A spokesman for the family of one of the victims indicated the incident could be racially tinged as he described them as a group of young men of "different races." The deceased victim was a black boy and the suspect a Latino.
