Tehran-Moscow Ties at Best Possible Level: Iranian Deputy FM

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for Asia and Pacific Affairs Ebrahim Rahimpour said Tehran-Moscow relations are now at the highest possible level.

Tehran and Moscow are cooperating with each other on many issues, including politics, economy and regional issues, and their relations are at the highest possible level, Rahimpour said on Saturday on the sidelines of a ceremony held to pay tribute to the Iranian Foreign Ministry’s martyred officials.

Referring to President Rouhani’s upcoming visit to Moscow, he said the two countries are expected to sign five cooperation documents during the president’s trip.

A Russian diplomatic source had earlier announced President Rouhani’s potential trip to Moscow as well, saying, “Yes, preparations are underway for the visit. This can be realized by late March.”

Russia and Iran hold regular and close consultation concerning the latest developments in the region, Syria in particular, toward coordinating their efforts in helping restore security to Western Asia and the Arab country.

The Iranian official also said Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev is scheduled to pay an official visit to the Iranian capital soon, adding that Tehran is making necessary preparations for the trip.

Our relations with Azerbaijan are also at the best possible level, Rahimpour further said, noting that the two nations' bilateral ties are getting stronger day by day.

Iran and Azerbaijan have accelerated efforts in recent years to forge closer partnership in various areas.

In February 2016, Aliyev paid an official visit to Tehran, during which the two sides signed eleven memorandums of understanding and agreements to promote mutual cooperation in a range of fields.
