US Democratic Congressman Warns Trump against Scrapping Iran Nuclear Deal

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A US Democratic lawmaker warned President Trump of the consequences Washington could face if he dismantles the 2015 nuclear deal between Tehran and world powers.

"What I hope has happened is that whoever is having conversations with the president said, 'If you follow through with your campaign promise to walk away from deal, within one year or maybe two we will be facing the choice of nuclear-capable Iran or a war,"  Illinois Congressman Bill Foster told The Hill on Saturday.

Recently, Foster penned a letter to Trump warning him about walking out on the nuclear agreement, also known the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

He also outlined the steps Iran has taken to comply with the deal, including removing two-thirds of its installed centrifuges, reducing its stockpile of enriched uranium by 98 percent and filling its heavy water research reactor with cement.

Foster’s letter to Trump was signed by 60 Democrats but no Republicans.

Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) reached the nuclear deal in July 2015 and implemented it in January last year.
