Iran Exports More Defense Equipment Despite Sanctions

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A senior Iranian military official said the country’s exports of defense industry products have jumped by 45% since four years ago.

The value of Iran’s defense industry exports has increased by 45% since four years ago to reach a total of $937 mln, compared with $744 mln for the preceding four years, Iran’s Deputy Defense Minister General Majid Bokayi said on Saturday.

Speaking in a gathering of high-ranking military commanders and parliamentarians in Tehran, General Bokayi stated that the remarkable surge in exports of Iranian military equipment has been materialized despite the fact that western countries have imposed a series of unilateral sanctions against the Islamic Republic.

The Defense Ministry has had a stellar record in the past four years, considering the restrictions and hostile sanctions imposed on the country, Bokayi pointed out.

He further praised the country’s efforts to boost its defense capabilities and deterrent power in recent years, saying, “Over the past four years, 373 defense projects were carried out, which shows a 60% rise compared to the previous period (of 4 years).”

In recent years, Iran has made great achievements in its defense sector and attained self-sufficiency in producing essential military equipment and systems, including military vessels, aircraft, missiles, tanks, armored vehicles, submarines, radars, and air defense systems, among others.

Tehran has frequently announced that its military might is entirely based on the nation's defense doctrine of deterrence and poses no threat to other countries.
